One careful owner

Last July as the Model Boating Pond’s water levels dropped, a surprising object came into view. It appeared to be the roof of a vehicle and as the water went down further, a Ford Cortina Mk3 emerged.

Rather rusty, but still in one piece (mainly), many people speculated how and when it might have ended up in the pond. The car has featured in the Evening Standard and the Camden New Journal. We’ve even launched a writing competition for young people to get the creative juices flowing and tell us their story of how it sank into the deep.

Since then, the car has been stuck in the silt, but BAM Nuttall have now made an access route and the car should be getting moved from the pond next week. I was lucky enough to get up close to the famous motor yesterday to take some pictures to share with you.
