Following my earlier post describing how the temporary dam at Model Boating Pond is to be stabilised, this work will take place next week (week commencing 14 September 2015).
The crane is now on site and the pontoons have been arriving over the past couple of days. Next week the crane will be floated out into the middle of the ponds and will begin installing the H section piles in the middle of the temporary dam. The water level has been increased to allow the pontoons the room to float.
The H section piles are to be installed by vibration. They will then be hammered in when they reach hard bed level. This will be a noisy activity and we apologise for any inconvenience this causes. We hope this work will take nine working days, although the hammering will only take place for part of the day.
When the temporary dam has been stabilised, the southern section of the pond will be drained once more in preparation for the construction of the new dam. Construction work at this pond is now 12 weeks behind schedule due to the problems with the temporary dam.
