The water level in the southern-end of Model Boating Pond are now dropping after the temporary dam was fixed last week. The pumps were switched on yesterday and the pond level has now dropped more than 1m.
The yellow pumps can be seen to the right of the temporary dam in the picture above. Water is being pumped from the southern end of the pond into the northern end of the pond, where it will then drain down through the pond chain using the existing overflow system.
The dropping level can be seen by looking at the water marks on the existing sheet-piled edge.
The pond will be drained until it reaches a certain level before the fish rescue operation takes place. The rescued fish will be moved into the remaining area of Model Boating Pond. Silt will then be excavated from the pond bed and moved into the work compound to dry out.
