New bat homes on the Heath

The Heath’s ecology team has been busy erecting new bat homes across the Heath. Several types of bat boxes have been chosen, each potentially housing up to 100 bats. With nine different species of bat to cater for, these boxes should provide suitable accommodation for both the Heath’s smaller and larger bats for many years to come.

Twelve boxes have already been installed with another eight to follow in the coming months. The majority of these boxes are being provided for environmental enhancement purposes, although six of the boxes are in compensation for the loss of two small features in trees during the recent site clearance works for the Ponds project. The boxes will be monitored by the Heath’s in-house bat expert and we will keep you posted of our findings.
